About Tamara

Tamara Jones is a Government of Alberta–appointed Marriage Commissioner serving the City of Calgary, Alberta. Over the past 18 years, she has performed more than 5,900 marriage ceremonies and takes great pride in serving her community through this meaningful service.

Tamara has earned a strong reputation in the wedding industry as a trusted ceremony specialist who brings both professionalism and light-heartedness to every wedding. She believes it’s all about balance, being present in the moment knowing that couples should truly enjoy their marriage ceremony. Her approach focuses on creating customized ceremonies and providing exceptional service with care, kindness, and attention to detail, so couples feel comfortable, confident, and supported on their wedding day.

Tamara has been a dedicated advocate for marriage equality and proudly supports the 2SLGBTQI+ community, embracing the belief that love is love. Tamara officiated our micro-wedding at my mum’s house west of the city. We planned everything in just two weeks and were so grateful she was able to be part of it on such short notice. It was an incredibly emotional time for us, as we had recently lost our son, and this ceremony was a way to honour our love for each other and for him.

Tamara made everything feel effortless and brought such warmth, compassion, and calm to the day. Her presence helped us create something beautiful in the middle of so much heartache, and that kindness has stayed with us.

Now, four years later (and after 18 years together), we look back on that day with so much love and healing. Thank you, Tamara, for being part of something so meaningful. We’ll always be grateful that you were the one to officiate our marriage. Also, a small but special note, your handwriting on our certificate was absolutely beautiful. Tamara officiated our wedding last week and we were blown away! Tamara has a special way of making her couples feel at ease and well taken care of. We had only met her once through Zoom a few weeks before our ceremony, but we felt she truly captured us and our love like she knew us personally. Tamara did an outstanding job ensuring our ceremony went smoothly and that it resonated with the relationship that my now Husband and I have. She gave us many readings to choose from which allowed us to choose a couple that aligned with our values (one that I was so touched by, I think I'll remember it for the rest of my life). She also helped each of us write our own personal vows to each other. We had a beautiful and personal ceremony and Tamara's words felt very genuine. She is very organized and gave us many useful tips and details during our rehearsal that helped the actual ceremony run seamlessly. The one thing that I really remember, is when I was overwhelmed with emotion walking in as the bride, I thought of what Tamara told me on the day of the rehearsal - take your time, this helped me focus on the moment and cherish it. As a bonus, even when the Groom forgot to place bubble blowers on all the chairs during the ceremony set up, I was told later that Tamara remembered about the bubbles, and hence, saved that part of our ceremony! Tamara is also efficient with communication, any questions I had were promptly answered.

After communicating with 2 other officiants and having a gut feeling of “this doesn’t feel right” I reached out to Tamara and my husband and I strongly believe that is one of the best decisions we made for our special day. She was very easy to communicate with from the start and followed up with reminders all throughout, she gave detailed responses to my queries and she chose the perfect outdoor venue for our elopement ceremony.
